A Photographic Comparison of Luminol, Fluorescein, and Bluestar
نویسنده
چکیده
Three chemicals (luminol, f luorescein, and Bluestar) are photographically compared. The results demonstrate that Bluestar performs as well or better than luminol and f luorescein. Introduction Detecting and photographing latent bloodstains at a crime scene can be challenging. The ease through which a presumptive chemical test is prepared, administered, and viewed is the first obstacle. Photographically documenting the results is the next. Luminol and f luorescein are frequently used by forensic specialists to detect latent blood. The simplicity of commercial luminol kits makes preparation and administ ration of luminol highly desirable, although its limited reaction time and the requirement of extreme darkness can be photographically challenging. Fluorescein does not require complete darkness, the reaction time is long-lasting, and although not tested in this trial, commercial kits are also available. However, a forensic light source is required to view the chemical reaction. Received November 25, 2005; accepted January 23, 2006

A Comparison Study On The New Formula of Bluestar® Latent Bloodstain Reagent and It’s Effects on DNA Typing/Amplification
OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to test two kinds of latent blood reagents, luminol and Bluestar® Magnum, and to determine their ability to detect latent blood and to preserve DNA for genetic profile determinations. DESIGN: Three dilutions of blood were applied to six substrates: vinyl tile, ceramic tile, treated and untreated wood, carpet and cinderblock. Each blood dilution, 1:1, 1:10 and ...
متن کاملEnhancer effect of fluorescein on the luminol-H2O2-horseradish peroxidase chemiluminescence: energy transfer process.
The chemiluminescence of the luminol-H2O2-horseradish peroxidase system is increased by fluorescein. Fluorescein produces an enhancement of the luminol chemiluminescence similar to that of phenolphthalein, by an energy transfer process from luminol to fluorescein. The maximum intensity and the total chemiluminescence emission (between 380 and 580 nm) of luminol with fluorescein was more than th...

Luminol, leuchomalachite green, phenolphthalein, Hemastix, Hemident, and Bluestar are all used as presumptive tests for blood. In this study, the tests were subjected to dilute blood (from 1:10,000 to 1:10,000,000), many common household substance, and chemicals. Samples were tested for DNA to determine whether the presumptive tests damaged or destroyed DNA. The DNA loci tested were D2S1338 and...
متن کاملPhotography of bloodstains visualized by luminol.
The chemical tests for blood currently in use depend upon the detection of hemoglobin or one of its derivatives [1]. Hemoglobin has several properties which make it suitable for this purpose. The most important, due to its sensitivity, is the peroxidase activity of hemoglobin heme which forms the basis of the benzidine, leuco-malachite green, phenolphthalein, and luminol tests for blood. The lu...
